Applications are now invited from suitably qualified candidates to join the team in the positions below on a One (1) year contract with possibility of renewal for a further period:

1.      PLANT OPERATOR - CIVIL

Job Purpose:

To operate and monitor water treatment processes—including coagulation, flocculation, sedimentation, filtration, and disinfection—under the supervision of the Plant Manager to ensure continuous production of safe, high-quality water in line with regulatory and service standards

Statements of Main Accountabilities

·      Daily operation and maintenance of the Water Treatment Plant.

·      Operates and monitors the smooth running of a WTP/s in accordance with the instructions issued to him/her by the Plant – Engineer.

·      Supervises the shift plant attendants to ensure assigned tasks are carried out as required.

·      Ensures the cleaning and the disinfection of the sedimentation tank, clear well and other tanks according to the programme, including backwashing of Filters.

·      Acquaints himself/herself with the status of the plant at beginning of shift, discusses with outgoing operators/Attendant so as to know plant status at beginning of shift

·      Checks water samples hourly for testing PH levels and other parameters for compliance with guidelines

·      Prepares and dozes chemicals used in treating water at the assigned water treatment plant

·      Performs autonomous maintenance.

·      Maintains daily process plant records

Knowledge and Skill Requirements

·      Full Grade 12 Certificate

·      Diploma in Engineering (Civil, Water or equivalent)

·      5 years’ post qualification experience in a comparable organisation

·      Member of the relevant professional regulatory body (EIZ)

2.      PLANT OPERATOR - ELECTRICAL

               Job Purpose:

To carry out electrical and operational duties at the Water Treatment Plant under the supervision of the Plant Manager, ensuring the continuous treatment and supply of safe, high-quality water in accordance with established service level agreements and regulatory requirements

Summary of Main Accountabilities

·      Operate, monitor, and maintain electrical equipment and systems at the treatment plant to ensure continuous and efficient water production.

·      Identify, troubleshoot, and report electrical faults promptly to maintain plant safety, reliability, and compliance with operational standards.

·      Supervises the shift plant attendants to ensure assigned tasks are carried out as required.

·      Record operational data, electrical readings, and plant performance indicators accurately in logbooks and reporting tools.

·      Ensure safe operation of electrical equipment by adhering to established safety procedures and lockout–tagout practices.

·      Assist in starting, stopping, and regulating treatment processes in coordination with plant operators and supervisors.

·      Safeguard tools, equipment, and plant property, ensuring proper housekeeping in all electrical areas.

·      Enforces good performance and discipline of staff.

·      Maintains electrical plant records.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements

·      Full Grade 12 Certificate      

·      Diploma in Electrical Engineering or equivalent

·      5 years’ post qualification experience in a comparable organisation

·      Member of the relevant professional regulatory body (EIZ)

3.      PLANT OPERATOR - MECHANICAL

Purpose of the Job

To operate, monitor, and maintain mechanical equipment at the Water Treatment Plant under the supervision of the Plant Manager to ensure continuous, reliable water production and compliance with service level agreements and quality standards

Main accountabilities

·      Operate, monitor, and maintain mechanical systems, including pumps, valves, gearboxes, compressors, and mechanical drive units.

·      Conduct routine inspections and lubrication of mechanical equipment to ensure optimal performance.

·      Identify mechanical faults early and report them promptly to minimize downtime and production losses.

·      Assist with preventive maintenance tasks such as pump alignment, bearing checks, and seal replacements under guidance from maintenance teams.

·      Maintain accurate mechanical logs, equipment performance data, and daily operation records.

·      Support the start-up, shutdown, and regulation of treatment processes in coordination with plant operators.

·      Ensure proper housekeeping and safe working conditions around mechanical equipment and plant areas.

·      Adhere strictly to safety procedures, including lockout–tagout and safe handling of rotating equipment.

·      Enforces good performance and discipline of staff.

·      Maintains mechanical records for all plant equipment

Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

  • Full Grade 12 Certificate

·      Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent

·      5 years’ post qualification experience in a comparable organisation

·      Member of the relevant professional regulatory body (EIZ)
