Zambia Sugar Plc, an ABF Sugar company, is the leading sugar producer in Zambia. The company specializes in sugar cane growing, sugar production, and marketing of sugar and related downstream products.
The company is inviting qualified and experienced professionals to apply for the position of Laboratory Services In-Charge.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee laboratory operations at Zambia Sugar Hospital and peripheral clinics
Lead and coordinate the laboratory team
Supervise chemical, biochemical, and biological laboratory testing
Ensure proper sample collection, processing, and accurate reporting of results
Ensure compliance with medical laboratory regulations and standards
Collaborate with primary and occupational healthcare teams
Promote teamwork and stakeholder engagement
Maintain leadership standards and effective communication across teams
Promote risk assessment and continuous improvement
Develop and manage laboratory documentation (SOPs, job aids, etc.)
Liaise with the medical team regarding equipment and reagent procurement
Plan and manage laboratory budgets for consumables and equipment
Monitor inventory to prevent stock-outs and expired materials
Prepare laboratory duty rosters and coordinate part-time laboratory staff
Facilitate supply of rapid test kits to clinics
Monitor laboratory expenditure within approved budgets
Coordinate maintenance and servicing of laboratory equipment
Perform laboratory tests in haematology, microbiology (including TB tests), immunology, clinical chemistry, and urinalysis
Conduct quality control procedures and ensure accuracy of test results
Maintain laboratory safety, infection control, and environmental standards
Record and update patient test results in medical records
Qualifications and Experience
Full Grade 12 Certificate
Degree in Biomedical Sciences
Minimum 5 years’ experience in a reputable laboratory (preferred)
At least 3 years in a supervisory role (preferred)
Registered with the Health Professions Council of Zambia
Knowledge of laboratory accreditation and certification requirements
Computer literacy and strong record-keeping skills
Experience in laboratory quality management systems
Knowledge of laboratory information systems
Valid driver’s license (added advantage)
Ability to maintain high standards of quality, safety, and infection control
Certificates must be verified by the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA)
