Frankfurt Zoological Society (FZS) is an international conservation organisation dedicated to conserving wildlife and ecosystems in some of the world’s most outstanding wild places. FZS implements long-term conservation programmes across Africa, South America, Asia, and Europe.
In Zambia, FZS operates through the North Luangwa Conservation Programme (NLCP). Under the EU NaturAfrica–funded Connecting Livelihoods and Landscape (CoLiLa) Project, FZS is expanding its work within the Malawi–Zambia Transfrontier Conservation Area (MAZA TFCA), strengthening biodiversity conservation, inclusive livelihoods, and rights-based community governance.
About the Role
The Community Liaison Assistant will support day-to-day community engagement and communication under the EU NaturAfrica CoLiLa Project. The role serves as a critical link between communities and the project team, supporting consultations, information sharing, grievance mechanisms, and participatory processes.
Working under the supervision of senior field staff, the position will help ensure that project activities are well understood, inclusive, culturally appropriate, and responsive to community feedback.
Your Tasks
The Community Liaison Assistant will:
- Support community consultations, meetings, and awareness sessions
- Act as a liaison between communities, Traditional Authorities, and the project team
- Assist in mobilisation for community activities, trainings, and elections
- Support implementation and communication of Grievance Redress Mechanisms (GRMs)
- Record and relay community feedback, concerns, and priorities to project staff
- Support the dissemination of project information, including EU visibility messaging
- Assist with documentation of meetings, attendance, and activity reports
- Support conflict-sensitive engagement and FPIC processes
- Work closely with Community Conservation Officers and Educators in the field
- Perform any other duties required to support effective project implementation
Your Profile
Qualifications
- Certificate or Diploma in Community Development, Social Work, Natural Resource Management, or a related field
- Relevant community facilitation training is an advantage
Experience
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in community engagement, outreach, or liaison roles
- Experience working with traditional leadership and community structures
- Familiarity with rural development or conservation programmes
- The ability to communicate effectively in local languages is essential
- Experience working in remote field settings
